Sale Nomads Theatre Club

Early Days

The Nomad Dramatic & Social Club, stated on the 22nd November 1946, when the ten founders met in a house in Fownhope Road.  The first council gave the club a name appointed the first President and laid the basis of the original Constitution.  The name “Nomad” was suggested by one of the Founders and was thought to be an apt reflection of the fact they that they had no regular home.

The Club, however, in a way goes back to the Autumn of 1939, when the Sale Central Social Club was set up.  The Shows and Social activities were held in a building affectionately known as the “Tin Bin”, which used to stand behind the Independent Methodist Church in Glebelands Road.

One Summer Show was performed during a very hot spell and the boys in the show spent a couple of hours before “curtain up” spraying the roof with cold water to cool the building down.

For one reason or another after the war membership became very depleted, the tenancy of the Tin Bin came to an end and a meeting was called to discuss the future.  Very few members turned up so it was decided to to wind the club up.  Ten of those at the meeting became the Founders of the Nomads at that inaugural meeting on 22nd November 1946.
